The Four Faces of Bonding

🌿 Leaves in the Wind

There are people who are like leaves: light, fleeting, moved by the breath of circumstance. They are with us for brief seasons, adorning our days with color and presence. But when the wind changes, they leave without warning, without roots, without attachment. They are summer friendships, autumn loves, encounters that do not withstand time. They are not bad, just ephemeral—they teach us the beauty of the moment. But few wish to be leaves, and even fewer want to live surrounded by them.

🌳 Branches that Support

Others are like twigs: firm, but fragile under pressure. They support, offer shade, stretch out to reach the sun. They are with us in many moments, but can break in the face of a storm. They are useful companions, reliable to a certain extent, but not unbreakable. We want to have them close, but we know they are not the foundation. Being a branch is good, but it's not what we seek when life demands depth.

🪵 Trunks that support everything

There are those who are like trunks: strong, stable, present. They are pillars on our journey, they bear our pain, they celebrate our victories. They don't shake easily, they are there when everything seems to fall apart. They are true friends, loves that endure, presences that shape our story. We all long to have a trunk by our side—and many aspire to be one. Because being a trunk is being shelter, being a foundation, being essential.

🌱 Invisible and vital roots

And there are the rare ones who are like roots: invisible, but fundamental. They don't always appear, but they are there, nourishing, sustaining, connecting. They are deep souls, eternal bonds, ties that don't fade with time. Roots don't seek recognition—they offer life. Being a root is the ideal: it's loving unconditionally, it's remaining even in absence. We all want to have roots in our lives. And, deep down, that's what we want to be.

I was inspired by a video I found on Instagram for this text, but I don't know who the author is.
